COLLEGE/CAREER CENTER BULLETIN OPEN HOURS: 7:30 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. Week of April 12th – April 16th SAT 1/11 and ACT TEST: The SAT 1/11 registration deadline for the June test is May 5th. The ACT deadline for the June test is May 7, 2010. You must take the plus writing on the ACT test. JUNIORS - these are the last test dates for this school year. Fee Waivers are available in the College/Career Center during lunch. BLUE PRINT JOB TRAINING: The Blue Print Job Training is a 5week training program designed to prepare youth with the skills needed to succeed both in school and in the workplace. Students ages 16 and up who successfully complete all workshops will receive a Work Ready Certification. You will also be invited to the 2010 Job Fair on April 29th. Come to the College/Career Center during nutrition and/or lunch and sign up. FINANCIAL AID: Seniors, this is a very important form that needed to be filled out as soon as possible even if you feel your parents make to much money for college. See Mrs. Walker if you did not receive this information. Also, come to the College/Career Center or see your counselor for an appointment to complete your FAFSA application. DEADLINE for Universities and Privates was March 2nd. Community Colleges will still accept the FAFSA but not the CAL Grant form. Less money the later you wait! EL CAMINO COLLEGE: El Camino College Representative will be here every Tuesday during lunch to help answer any questions you may have. Seniors who will be attending El Camino in the fall can apply now @www.elcamino.edu. You must know your social security number. AB540 (no SS#) students can also apply. Once applied, wait a week to receive your College ID number. You will need to print the first page and bring it to Mrs. Walker in the College/Career Center. See Mrs. Walker for questions. Seniors who show interest and apply early will be considered for the spring field trip. SANTA MONICA REPRESENTATIVE: Come during lunch if you are a student who would like to know and/or apply to SMC. Apply @www.smc.edu. Seniors need to apply early to get a SMC ID# to be considered for the April field trip. CSU DOMINGUEZ HILLS : CSU Dominguez Hills will give the EPT and/or ELM test. Deadline to take this test is the April 16th or when full. You may take the test at CSUDH and have test scores transferred to the CSU campus of your choice. See Mrs. Walker for more details. INTERNATIONAL CULINARY SCHOOL’S AT THE ART INSTITUTE: Back by popular demand. The Culinary Art Institute Speaker will be here on Tuesday, April 13th. A culinary art education is essential to become a successful hospitality professional. You will learn the core disciplines in commercial food preparation through hands-on training, restaurant management and much more. Come pick up a pass in the College/Career Center if you are interested. NURSE SPEAKER: This is an event you want to attend if you are interested in the nursing field. All grade levels are invited. Nurse Dobbs from Little Company of Mary Hospital will be here in the month of April (date pending). She will explain the different responsibilities and jobs available in the nursing field. Come to the College/Career Center and sign up with Mrs. Walker. WORK PERMITS: Any person under the age of 18 must have a work permit in order to work even during the summer. You need to be hired by your employer first, before picking up an application. Work Permits are issued in the College/Career Center. Regular and Summer Work Permits expire on September 17th of each school year and need to be renewed. Having a work permit is a privilege. While school is in session, you must by law have a 2.0 G.P.A. MILITARY REPRESENTATIVES: A representative from the Air Force, Army, Marine and the Navy come on campus on Wednesdays during lunch to answer any questions one might have. Each military branch comes on campus once every month on a Wednesday. Feel free to say hello. See Mrs. Walker for questions. NAVY REPRESENTIVE: The Navy Representative will be here Wednesday, April 14th during lunch to talk to any student who may be interested. MARINE REPRESENTIVE: The Marine Representative will be here Wednesday, April 21st during lunch time to talk to any student who may be interested. SELECTIVE SERVICE: There has not been a draft in this country since 1973. However, it is the law that males turning 18 years of age register with the Selective Service within 30 days of their birthday. Register at any Post Office or on-line at: www.sss.gov. There are penalties for not registering. |
