Mr. Matthew Seanez/Sr. Seanez

Hello Cougar Family,

I am thankful to be with the Cougar Family for another year, my second as an Associate Principal here at Hawthorne.  My journey in education began at my time at Cal Poly Pomona for my undergraduate degree.  I began at the age of 20 coaching Football at my Alma Mater and that set me on a path to work with High School students permanently.  I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with my Bachelors in History.  I later attended Cal State University, Long Beach for my Master’s in Educational Administration.

My first teaching position was at Warren High School in Downey where I spent 4 years as a Social Science teacher while continuing my Coaching Career.  These foundational years teaching was a great learning experience and prepared me for future endeavors in education and personally.

I was lucky enough to find an opening at Leuzinger High School as a Social Science Teacher in 2014 and had the opportunity to teach in the same school district as my wife, who was a teacher at Hawthorne High School at the time.  I spent the next 5 years at Leuzinger as a Social Science teacher, with 4 of those years as the Coordinator of the Culinary Careers Academy.  I was able to build great relationships with my colleagues and especially my students in the Academy.  I learned a lot from them and the value of Career and Technical Education curriculum integration.  Supporting the Culinary Students in their Culinary Competitions were the highlights of my teaching career.

In 2019, I had the opportunity to transfer to Hawthorne, where I spent 3 years as Athletics Director for Hawthorne.  I felt a deep connection to the students as a leader in developing School Culture and making all stakeholders proud of being a Hawthorne Cougar.

I am now in my 14th year in Education, 10th year in CVUHSD, and now 5th year at Hawthorne High School.  Being a part of the family atmosphere that Hawthorne exudes makes me feel great to come to work each day and support the students.  I am committed to doing my part in ensuring our students meet the Mission and Vision statement of Hawthorne High and graduate prepared for College, Careers, and Life.  Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and I hope to see you around campus!
