Honors Biology (Period 1)

Course Description

Welcome students and parents to a new school year! My name is Carina Gutierrez and I am a Science teacher at Hawthorne High school. I will be teaching Biology and I would like to share some information about the course, some of the policies/expectations for the classroom, and my contact information. Biology is a Science that studies living organisms. In this course, we will cover topics such as Cells, Anatomy, Genetics, Ecology and Evolution. The course is one-year and fulfills graduation requirements for Life Science.

Honors Biology Winter Project

  • Create a DNA model
  • No pre-made kits
  • No food
  • 1. Model must be at least 15 nucleotides long for each strand
  • 2. Model must have a different color represent each portion of the DNA strand
  • 3. Model must also contain a Legend listing what each color represents.
  • 4. Model must be able to twist/spiral on own
  • 5. Model must be connected properly i.e. bases connect to sugar
